Lifeguard Training

The 5 day Beach Lifeguard Qualification offered by Bantham Surfing Academy is a professional qualification backed by the Surf Life Saving GB and is recognised by the International Lifesaving governing body. It allows successful trainees to work as lifeguards on British beaches and abroad. As well as working in beach lifeguarding, the qualification is a stepping stone to other careers in outdoor pursuits.

Bantham Surfing Academy run international recognised Lifeguard & Surf Instructor courses throughout the year. Offer supervised surf trips abroad to Morocco, South Africa, Mozambique South of France. You have the unique opportunity to obtain your Lifeguard & Surf Instructors qualifications abroad in sunny climates, perfect waves and warm waters. All locations are with very reputable and established surf companies. All packages are designed to suit all levels of surfing ability.

Training with a Difference
Those that want to avoid the cold winter months and escape to sunny climates, we are able to arrange surf trips to include your Beach Lifeguard course as an inclusive package. We will select our Trainer / Assessors to travel with you and deliver Surfing lessons and your Beach Lifeguard course. We have chosen these great surf destinations – Morocco, Mozambique, Durban, South France.
What are the entry requirements?
You must must be physically fit and able to swim 400 metres in under 7 minutes 30 seconds, (the first 200m in under 3 mins 30 secs) as well as run 200m on the beach in under 40 seconds.
Who is this lifeguard course aimed at?
People who want to work as beach lifeguards, surf instructors, outdoor pursuits instructors or embark on careers in rescue and emergency care.
What will I be doing on the lifeguard course?
Successful students will have to demonstrate their knowledge and capabilities in the following core competencies; Lifeguarding Theory, CPR, First Aid, Spinal management and open Water Skills including board and tube rescue
Do I need to have experience?
Previous experience is desirable but not essential as all training will be provided during the course. Having basic board skills and a knowledge of the beach and ocean environments will help.
How and where do I study the lifeguard course?
The courses will take place at specifically selected locations and beaches around Devon and Cornwall.
How old do I have to be?
Candidates must be age 16 on the day of the exam.
